Pennsylvania Attorney General Subpoenas Epik Over Domain Name

What in the hell is this about?

DomainNameWire reports:

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro has asked domain name registrar Epik to send it information about its interactions with Gab, the social network that came under fire after one of its users shot people at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.

Gab linked the documents on Twatter and lambasted the fool:

Update: It looks like Gab removed the posts and the subpoena documents.  There was a provision stating that Epik could only share them with Gab, but no provision against Gab sharing them with everyone. I assume they were removed because Gab’s legal counsel told them to remove them.

What an absurd waste of taxpayer resources.  I have no problems with Jews, but this is a clear case of racist retribution on the part of the AG.  The AG is the racist here, not Gab or Epik, who have cooperated fully with law enforcement.  Does anyone honestly think the AG would have filed this subpoena if he wasn’t a Jew?

Gab has clear rules against posting violent threats.  There is absolutely NO reason for the AG to file this subpoena other than for pure harassment and to drum up negative media attention.

Just an FYI to AG Shapiro, your conduct is not only offensive, it’s ILLEGAL:

Universal Citation: 18 PA Cons Stat § 5301 (2014)

§ 5301. Official oppression.

A person acting or purporting to act in an official capacity or taking advantage of such actual or purported capacity commits a misdemeanor of the second degree if, knowing that his conduct is illegal, he:

(1) subjects another to arrest, detention, search, seizure, mistreatment, dispossession, assessment, lien or other infringement of personal or property rights; or

(2) denies or impedes another in the exercise or enjoyment of any right, privilege, power or immunity.
